Heat intensity reduces in east, southern peninsular India

The intensity of the ongoing heat wave in parts of the eastern and southern peninsula of India reduced slightly on Saturday. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted relief from the scorching heat in these areas after two days. IMD said heat wave conditions persist in Ganga region of West Bengal, parts of Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Telangana. Maximum temperatures in these areas are 3-5 degrees Celsius above normal. At least 10 places in these states recorded temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius.

According to IMD data, maximum temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius were recorded at 13 places on Friday and 17 places on Thursday. Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh recorded a temperature of 46 degrees Celsius and remained the hottest place in the country for the third consecutive day on Saturday. The maximum temperature was 45.9 degrees Celsius in Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh), 45 degrees in Mahabubnagar (Telangana), 44 degrees in Boudh in Odisha, 43.5 degrees in Karur Paramathi (Tamil Nadu), 44.6 degrees in Nizamabad (Telangana), 44.6 degrees in Cuddapah (Andhra Pradesh). 45.4 degrees Celsius and 43.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Kalaikunda, West Bengal.

Possibility of light to moderate rain in these areas

The department said the heat wave in east and south peninsular India will continue till May 5-6 and end after that. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand from May 5 to 9. During this period, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Karnataka from May 6 to 9.

Assam: Heavy rain forecast in Dima Hasao, alert issued

At the same time, officials said that due to the forecast of heavy rain in the next 10 days, the Meteorological Department issued an alert in Dima Hasao district of Assam on Saturday, in which people were asked not to come out of their homes except in case of emergency. He said that the movement of heavy commercial vehicles will be stopped on the Jatinga-Harangjao section of National Highway-27 from 8 pm on Saturday night and the traffic will be diverted through alternative routes. The Meteorological Department has said in its forecast that there will be heavy rain in the district from Sunday to May 15. The District Disaster Management Authority, in an advisory, appealed to the public not to step out of their homes during the rains except for emergency or medical purposes. The public is requested to remain alert in case of any emergency.
