Delhi’s electricity supply is disrupted at many places amid heavy rains in several parts of the national capital

Delhi Rain: Heavy rains occurred in the national capital Delhi on Friday morning, due to which waterlogging occurred in many areas. In such a situation, as a precaution to prevent the spread of electric current in these areas and due to technical faults in some areas, power supply was disrupted.

People of Dwarka, Jangpura and Laxmi Nagar said that the power supply in these areas was disrupted as soon as the rain started in the morning. Pranav Mishra, a resident of Jangpura, said, “Due to heavy rain, the power supply was disrupted at around 3-4 in the morning and after waiting for several hours, the power was restored at 4 in the evening.”

There is power supply here
Power supply remained disrupted at different times in several areas, including Nizamuddin, Jangpura, Dwarka Sector-7, parts of Pitampura, Rohini, Model Town, Mukherjee Nagar, Timarpur, areas of Hauz Khas, Green Park, Mayapuri, Sangam Vihar, Paharganj, Sadar Bazaar, Ram Nagar, Bara Hindu Rao, Karawal Nagar, Sonia Vihar, Seelampur, Laxmi Nagar and Trilok Puri.

Electricity had to be cut in low lying areas
A spokesperson for BSES discoms (distribution companies) BRPL and BYPL said, “Many areas of Delhi were waterlogged due to heavy rains and power supply was disrupted due to trees and branches falling on power lines. In view of the safety of people and as a precaution to prevent electrical accidents, power supply had to be cut in waterlogged and low-lying areas. “

It took a little longer to restore power
He said that in most cases, power supply was restored soon by BSES’s quick response teams. “It took a little longer to restore power in some areas as we had to wait till the water receded,” the spokesperson said. “Due to DTL supply failure of 220 kV Gopalur to Indra Vihar line, power supply was affected in some areas for two to 10 minutes. TPPDL teams worked swiftly and supply was restored in most areas within 10 minutes,” he said.

Repair work was started immediately
Discom officials said that due to rain, power lines, poles etc. were damaged in various parts of the national capital, due to which power supply was disrupted. However, repair work was started immediately to restore the supply.

Ravi, a resident of Lalita Park in east Delhi, said, “Power supply was disrupted for five to 10 minutes several times during and after the rain. This was a cause of trouble because early in the morning people fill water from Delhi Jal Board tankers and prepare to go to work.”

Heavy rains lashed Delhi in the wee hours of Friday, leaving roads across the city waterlogged and a portion of the roof of Delhi airport’s Terminal-1 also collapsed. The Safdarjung weather station recorded 153.7 mm rainfall. The rain started at 3 am. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, 124.5 to 244.4 mm rainfall in a day is called very heavy rain.
