He has received some such letters through post, in which his photo has been shown in objectionable position. He has also been threatened in this. Vivian Balakrishnan gave this information through a Facebook post. He says that there is also talk of extorting money in the threatening letter. Some objectionable photos have also been edited in it, which can be done easily with any software in today’s time. Some email IDs have also been given in the letter, on contacting which money is being demanded.

Balakrishnan says that he and many other MPs have received such letters in which obscene pictures have been sent along with threats. The Foreign Minister said that legal action will be taken by filing a report with the police. At the same time, the police said, if such an incident happens to anyone, then lodge a complaint with the police without any fear. Don’t fall into the trap of swindlers. Balakrishnan said, everyone needs to take action together against such frauds and scams. It is not normal for such incidents to happen with such big personalities.

Threatened to make pictures viral if money is not given
Police say that some photographs have been sent by post to the Foreign Minister and other MPs along with threatening letters. All the pictures are objectionable. More than 70 such reports have been filed since March. There are some e-mail addresses in the letters and it is written that if the e-mail is not contacted then the consequences will be bad. When the victims contacted through e-mail, they were asked to transfer money. Threats are also given that if the money is not transferred then the pictures will be made viral.

Fear of deepfakes?
Balakrishnan says that this incident is very worrying. This is not good for a good society. Nowadays cases of deepfakes are going on and everyone needs to take strict action. Anyone can create deepfake content in a matter of minutes with simple tools, so it can pose a threat. He says that his photo has been tampered with and after this he too was threatened with extortion.
