The Supreme Court has upheld the land acquisition done by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIID), East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) between 1957 and 2006. Let us tell you that DDA, DSIID, EDMC and DMRC had acquired land for different projects.

Delhi High Court order quashed

The Delhi government had started the land acquisition process under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 for various development works in the capital region. After this, state units like DDA, DSIID, EDMC and DMRC gave land for various development works. Commenting on this matter, the apex court said that a long time has passed from 1957 to 2006.

On a petition filed by hundreds of people, a bench of Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Dutta and Ujjwal Bhuinya passed an order on May 17. In the order, the decision of the Delhi High Court was quashed. In fact, the Delhi High Court had declared the land acquisition proceedings over.

The court allowed the acquisition to continue

The bench of the apex court said that considering all the appeals, the acquisition is allowed to continue and the decision of the High Court is quashed. Along with this, the apex court accepted the argument that public interest would be hampered if the petitions against the order of the High Court were dismissed.
