New discovery raises hope of finding life outside Earth, expert says aliens like humans are not impossible

It is believed that planet K2-18b is an ocean-covered world with 2.6 times the radius of Earth. Scientists have seen signs of a gas called dimethyl sulfide, or DMS, hidden in its atmosphere. NASA experts said the gas comes mainly from “phytoplankton in the marine environment.” It arises only from the processes of life.

Dr. Nikku Madhusudan, the Cambridge astronomer who led the study, told about the discovery of the gas that it was a very shocking discovery for him and he could not sleep for a week.
