New Delhi. The Indian women’s team will start its campaign in the Asia Cup on Friday. Its first match is against Pakistan. This time the Asia Cup is being held in T20 format. The reason for this is the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Indian team will also test its preparation for the T20 World Cup through the Asia Cup. Bangladesh will host the World Cup later this year. India is the most successful team in the Women’s Asia Cup T20 in which it has won 17 out of 20 matches. India defeated Bangladesh in the final of the last edition of 2022.
India has dominated the tournament by winning the trophy in all seven editions (including T20 and ODI) since it started in 2004. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur said, ‘This tournament is very important for all of us. We respect this tournament equally and want to improve at the global level along with Asia.’
The captains of the rest of the teams participating in Asia were also present at the press conference held in Dambulla (Sri Lanka). Harmanpreet said during this, ‘Our focus will remain the same as we are preparing for the T20 World Cup. Every match is important for us and we will try to give our best.’
India won 11 out of 14 matches
India’s record against Pakistan in the T20 format has been excellent in which it has won 11 out of 14 matches. Pakistan has won only 3 matches. Harmanpreet said, ‘We always enjoy playing against Pakistan and every team is important. But every match is different. We will try to show our best game this time too.’
