Xi Jinping-Joe Biden Bilateral Summit: Relations between America and China have remained sour for a long time. With the aim of reducing some tension and distance between the two countries, Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden met for the first time this year in San Francisco. During this, both the heads of state discussed special issues ranging from enhancing mutual harmony to Israel-Hamas war, Russia-Ukraine war and Taiwan tensions etc. but this meeting is not being considered good for Taiwan.

During this meeting, US President Biden held bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi on many global issues. The eyes of the entire world including India were fixed on the bilateral strategic talks of these leaders. Different countries of the world have derived different meanings from this strategic dialogue. This dialogue has been considered special in view of global tensions and stability of regional security and peace.

The talks between these powerful leaders are being seen from a different perspective regarding the issue of Taiwan. Xi Jinping has also described the Taiwan issue as important for US-China relations. China urged the US to respect its commitments regarding Taiwan’s independence. Xi Jinping supported peaceful reunification with Taiwan but did not rule out the use of force on Taiwan. On the other hand, US President Biden emphasized America’s commitment to regional peace.

‘Biden urges China to follow Taiwan’s democratic values’

US President Biden also told Xi that we have known each other for a long time. I value our conversation because I think it is paramount that you and I understand each other clearly without any misunderstandings. Biden asked the Chinese President to follow Taiwan’s democratic values.

Elections expected to be held in Taiwan in January

Meanwhile, America is maintaining full pressure on China to respect the democratic process of this island. Actually, elections are proposed to be held in Taiwan in the coming month of January. Currently, there is a strong presence of the Chinese army near Taiwan. Despite this, there is no immediate threat of attack on Taiwan.

‘It is not an option for two big countries of the world to turn their backs on each other’

Biden says that China-US relations have never been smooth in the last 50 years or more. Both have always had to face some kind of problems. Despite this, keep moving forward amidst ups and downs. The two biggest countries of the world turning their backs on each other is not an option.

China said- peaceful reunification of Taiwan is its priority

On the other hand, in the report of Chinese state media Xinhua, Xi has been quoted as saying that the American stance on Taiwan was described as the most important and dangerous issue for US-China relations. Xi made it clear to his American counterpart that the peaceful reunification of Taiwan is China’s priority. He also said under what circumstances he would be forced to use force. At the same time, the US President reiterated his commitment to maintaining peace and stability.
