Muslim Population In India : The issue of increasing population of Muslims has always been a topic of discussion. Pew Research Center is claiming that by the year 2050 this religious population will increase to 30 percent. Now the report said that their religious population is increasing rapidly, which will be the largest religious population in the world by 2050, replacing Christianity.
Birth rate is higher among Muslim women
Research has shown that the growth and decline of any religious population depends on its women, how many children the women are giving birth to, what is their fertility rate. Talking about the current fertility rate, the fertility rate of Muslim women is considered to be the highest. This is clearly visible in both global and local cases. Between 2019 and 2021, the birth rate of families following Islam was 2.3, which is much higher than other communities. Data from the National Family Health Survey says that earlier this rate was even higher. In the year 2015, the fertility rate was recorded at 2.6 percent. In the nineties it was 4.4 percent.
Fertility rate of Hindus decreased
If we talk about Hindus, the fertility rate has come down to 1.94 percent. Those who follow Christianity come with 1.88 percent. At present, reliable data about religious groups is not available. The last census was conducted in 2011, when there were 17.22 crore Muslims in India, which was 14.2 percent of the total population of the country. Apart from India, Muslim population also increased rapidly in the world. Among all the countries in the top 10, the fertility rate is the highest in the world. These include Congo, Mali, Chad, Uganda, Somalia, South Sudan, Burundi and Guinea. These are mostly African countries, where Islam has spread. The fertility rate in Arab countries is 3.1.
Getting married at a young age is also a big reason
The report also cites many major reasons behind the birth of more children, among them marriage of women at an early age. While in developed countries this average is 26.2 years, in Muslim-majority countries this average comes down to 20 years. This is just a data. In most Islamic countries marriage takes place at an early age. Due to lack of education, they do not have much knowledge about family planning. In other religions, due to late marriages, the years for giving birth to children automatically decrease. This also has an impact.
