New Delhi. India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill has become a fan of the team’s chief coach Gautam Gambhir. He praised the new coach wholeheartedly in the press conference before the T20 series with Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav will be the captain in the T20 series against Sri Lanka and Rohit Sharma will be the captain in the ODI series. Shubman Gill will be the vice-captain in both these series.
With India’s title win in the T20 World Cup, the tenure of the then coach Rahul Dravid ended. Now Gautam Gambhir has taken his place. The Indian team is ready to play the first T20 series under Gautam Gambhir’s tenure. Before the series, Shubman Gill said, ‘We are the world champions and will perform in the same style. Hopefully, we will get success with the new coaching staff as well.’
Gill said, ‘I am working with him (Gambhir) for the first time. In just two net sessions, I realised that he has a lot of clarity in his thoughts. He knows when and on which aspect he has to work with which player.’
When asked about the pressure of vice-captaincy, he said, ‘It does not make any difference. When I go out to bat, my goal is to perform well and help the team win the match. The only difference is that when you are a captain or vice-captain, you have to take more decisions on the field.’ (input language)
