Payal Kapadia was born in Mumbai. Payal’s mother’s name is Nalini Malani. Payal completed her studies from Rishi Valley School in Andhra Pradesh. After this, Payal completed her graduation in Economics from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. She obtained a master’s degree from Sophia College. After this, Payal Kapadia learned the art of direction from the Film and Television Institute.
The Story of ‘All We Imagine as Light’
‘All We Imagine As Light’ is a feature film. Its story is based on two nurses (Prabha and Anu) who live together. Prabha is married in an arranged marriage and her husband lives abroad. On the other hand, Anu is not married but she is in love with a boy. Prabha and Anu go on a trip with their two friends, where they try to dress themselves up and then they understand the meaning of freedom. Stars like Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Ridhu Harun, Chaaya Kadam and Ajis Nedumangad have done a great job in this film.

Payal Kapadia has made four short films from 2014 to 2024. She directed a short film titled ‘A Night of Knowing Nothing’, which received the Golden Eye Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021. Apart from this, her short films include ‘And What Is the Summer Saying’, ‘The Last Mango Before the Monsoon’, ‘Afternoon Clouds’ and ‘Watermelon, Fish and the Half Ghost’.
