Who is Bidhyut Ranjan Sarangi appointed as chief justice of Jharkhand high court

Jharkhand High Court New Chief Justice Bidhyut Ranjan Sarangi: Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi has been appointed the new Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. President Draupadi Murmu has approved it on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium. He is currently a Justice of the Odisha High Court. Information about his appointment has been given by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

Vidyut Ranjan Sarangi’s appointment comes after the retirement of the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra retired about seven months ago. After that, on 29 December 2023, Justice S. Chandrashekhar was made the acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. Now he has been transferred to Rajasthan High Court.

The Union Minister gave this information
Arjun Ram Meghwal tweeted on Wednesday, “Using the powers given by the Indian Constitution, the President of India, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, has appointed Vidyut Ranjan Sarangi as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. Judge Chandrashekhar of Jharkhand High Court has been transferred to Rajasthan High Court.”

Justice Sarangi is a PhD in Law
Justice Sarangi was born on 20 July 1962 in Pantikhari Sasan village of Odagaon in Nayagarh district of Chhattisgarh. He comes from the prestigious Sarangi family. Justice Sarangi studied at BJB College, Bhubaneswar. He has done LLB and LLM from Utkal University. He has also done PhD in Law from Sambalpur University.

27 years of experience
Justice Sarangi has a long experience of 27 years in practicing law and as a judge. He was appointed as a Justice of the Odisha High Court on 20 June 2013. Prior to this, he has practiced as an advocate in the Odisha High Court and the Supreme Court. Justice Sarangi started practicing in the Odisha High Court in 1985. He is a member of the Odisha High Court Bar Association, Civil Court Bar Association, Criminal Court Bar Association and Central Tribunal Bar Association.
