New Delhi. After a successful tour of Zimbabwe, the Indian cricket team will now play T20 and ODI series in Sri Lanka. Team India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir is ready for his first foreign tour. India has to play 3 T20 and then the same number of ODI matches with Sri Lanka. Many players of the ICC T20 World Cup winning team were not on the Zimbabwe tour and they can be given rest in this series as well. Hardik Pandya may return as captain in the T20 series starting from July 27. Today the selectors can announce the team for this tour.
After winning the ICC T20 World Cup, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma bid farewell to this format. At the same time, legendary batsman Virat Kohli will also not play international matches for India in this format. After the retirement of these two stalwarts from T20, the space that has been left in the team is not going to be easy to fill. It is believed that Hardik Pandya will be given a chance as captain. Even before this, he has led the Indian team in this format. He also played as the vice-captain in the T20 World Cup.
Who will get rest
Talking about T20, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will no longer be part of the team against Sri Lanka due to retirement. The selectors can rest senior bowler Jasprit Bumrah and wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant. This step can be taken to manage the workload. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be the openers, while after this, experienced Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dubey along with Rinku Singh will be the big names in batting. Stormy opener Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad are also sure to get a place in the team.
In the absence of Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep will be responsible for bowling. Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan can be options as pacers. In spin, Ravi Bishnoi is considered certain to be sent on the Sri Lanka tour along with Kuldeep Yadav.
