New Delhi. The teams of India and Pakistan will face each other in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 group match in New York. Both teams will be seen playing on drop-in pitches. The T20 World Cup is being co-hosted by the West Indies and America. In this, some matches will be played in West Indies and some in America. Drop-in pitches are being brought from Florida and laid at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium for the match to be played in New York, America. These types of pitches are mostly used in Australia. Because there, along with cricket, rugby, football and baseball etc. are played in the same stadium. The T20 World Cup will start from June 2 to 29 in which a maximum of 20 teams will participate.
8 matches of T20 World Cup are to be organized at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Drop-in pitches were being prepared in Florida for the last 6 months. The seating capacity of this stadium is 34 000 spectators. All the eight matches played in this stadium will be played on drop-in pitches only. Four pitches are being laid at Nassau Stadium while six pitches will be set up nearby for practice.

What are drop in pitches?
Drop in pitches are those which are made somewhere away from the ground or venue. Later these pitches are brought by crane or truck and laid in the stadium. The pitches being prepared in Florida are being made under the supervision of Adelaide Oval Turf Solutions. Which is being led by Domeier Hogg, Chief Curator of Adelaide Oval. It is mainly used in Australia. After the end of the cricket season, these pitches are removed and filled with sand and then artificial grass is planted, after which the ground becomes ready for use again.
How are drop in pitches made?
Drop-in pitches are made by growing grass on a layer of black soil. All its processes take place in a steel frame. When a cricket match is organised, these pitches weighing 30 tonnes are lifted from a truck or trailer and placed on a 27 meter deep cement slab. Due to the frame being made of steel, it is quite rigid. In Australia, such ready-made pitches were used so that the grounds could be prepared for other events.
