Chhattisgarh Rainfall: Rain has wreaked havoc in Bastar division of Chhattisgarh. Rain water has filled the rural areas. More than 30 villages have turned into islands. Bijapur and Sukma districts have received record breaking rainfall this time. Heavy rain has also caused havoc in Jagdalpur. People are facing difficulties due to water entering their homes. More than a dozen wards have been affected. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in Bastar division for the next 24 hours.
The district administration has alerted the flood disaster management and SDRF team. Instructions have been given to send the villagers of Ganpati Resort near Jagdalpur to relief camps. The Central Water Department says that till now the water of Kolab Dam has not been released into the Indravati river from the neighboring state of Odisha. Opening the dam gate can create a flood situation in Jagdalpur. The water level of the Indravati river is continuously increasing every hour.
Rainfall causes havoc in Bastar division
In view of the rise in water level, the Bastar Collector has put the administration team on full alert. The drain near Jangla on National Highway-63 connecting Jagdalpur to Bijapur is overflowing. Traffic has been disrupted due to flooding of many roads in Bhopalpatnam and Maddeed area. More than half a dozen drains are overflowing in Sukma district as well. Water is continuously filling in the lower settlements of Konta area as well. However, other districts of Bastar division Dantewada, Kanker and Kondagaon have received 28, 40 and 29 percent less rainfall than normal.
Three districts were badly affected
The highest rainfall of 611 mm was recorded in Bijapur district. The weather department has forecast heavy rainfall in Sukma, Bijapur, Bastar, Kondagaon and Narayanpur during the next 24 hours. Bastar Collector Vijay Dayaram visited different places on Friday and took stock of the waterlogging situation. Municipal Corporation officials were also present with the collector. He said that information has been received about water entering the lower settlements. The administration team is busy making arrangements to drain out the water.
SDRF team alert
The collector said that in view of the heavy rain alert, people are being evacuated from the areas near the Indravati river bank. Flood disaster management and SDRF teams have been alerted in the submerged area. The team is monitoring the situation 24 hours a day. It has been asked to keep the arrangements in order in the relief camps as well. At present, alerts have been issued in view of the rising water level in the Indravati river. So far, there is no information about opening the gate of Kolab Dam in Odisha.
