The tussle between West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose and two newly elected TMC MLAs over the swearing-in ceremony is almost resolved. The newly elected TMC MLAs will take oath on Friday. Governor Bose has authorised the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly to oversee the swearing-in of the two MLAs. Earlier in the day, Speaker Biman Banerjee called a special session of the Assembly starting at 2 pm on Friday, stressing that the functioning of the House is not entirely dependent on the Governor.

A senior Raj Bhavan official said on Thursday that the swearing-in ceremony of two TMC MLAs is scheduled to be held in the Assembly on Friday, for which the Governor has authorised Deputy Speaker Ashish Banerjee. Earlier, Speaker Biman Banerjee had sought the intervention of President Draupadi Murmu to resolve the oath-taking issue. Banerjee had accused Governor Bose of turning the swearing-in ceremony into a battle of egos.

The MLAs refused to take oath at the Raj Bhavan

Sayantika Bandopadhyay and Rayat Hussain won the by-elections held on Baranagar seat and Bhangbangola seat respectively. After the victory, Governor CV Anand Bose invited both the MLAs to Raj Bhavan for oath taking, but the MLAs refused to take oath at Raj Bhavan. The MLAs demand that they should be sworn in in the Assembly. For this, the Governor should give responsibility to the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the House. Due to not taking oath, the newly elected MLAs have not been able to start their role as public representatives.
