Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi has once again put the Haryana government in the dock in the matter of drinking water crisis. She alleged that the Haryana government is conspiring to create a drinking water crisis in Delhi. In this regard, it is constantly stopping Delhi’s share of water. It is releasing less water of Delhi’s share in Yamuna while the Supreme Court is trying to solve the water problem in Delhi. She opposed this step of the Haryana government while inspecting the Wazirabad Barrage on Friday.
On this occasion, Atishi told that due to Haryana government not giving full share of water to Delhi, the water level of Wazirabad Barrage was 671.3 feet on June 2. Whereas on June 7, the water level has decreased to 669.7 feet. She revealed that after the water issue reached the Supreme Court on June 2, the Haryana government has continuously reduced the release of water in Yamuna towards Delhi, whereas the Supreme Court is trying to solve the water problem of the people of Delhi, so the Supreme Court is continuously hearing this case.
He said that Delhi is dependent on the Yamuna river for its entire water supply. Yamuna receives only the water released from Haryana. Delhi Jal Board cleans this water in its water purification plants located at Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla and provides it to about 30 percent of the people of Delhi, but now due to less water coming from Haryana, these three plants are not getting enough water. They are not running at full capacity and there is a shortage of water in the areas connected to them and people are facing a lot of problems. They are wandering here and there for water.
Delhi government will complain against Haryana in Supreme Court
Atishi said that the Supreme Court is trying to solve the water problem in Delhi. Himachal Pradesh has said in the court that it is ready to help Delhi, but the Haryana government is now hatching a conspiracy that even if Himachal Pradesh provides water, the water problem in Delhi will not be solved.
In this regard, the Haryana government is continuously stopping water. Due to this, the water in Wazirabad Barrage has reduced. He said that he will put this entire matter before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will be requested to provide Delhi its share of water and the additional water received from Himachal Pradesh without any obstruction.
