Ravi has been known as Iravati since ancient times. After starting from Kangra district of Himachal, it flows on the border of Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and enters Pakistan. This river, which is part of the Indus Water Treaty, passes through the eastern bank of Lahore city of Pakistan.

By Baisakhi of 2025, the Ravi river water flowing wastefully to Pakistan will be completely controlled. Along with this, Shahpur Kandi Dam Project, one of the ambitious projects of the country, will start providing water for irrigation to the fields of Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir in the next Kharif season.
