Expansion

In the midst of the scorching heat in the capital, there is a drinking water crisis in the border villages due to insufficient water from Haryana. In about a dozen villages, neither water is being supplied through pipelines nor are the tankers of Delhi Jal Board reaching there.

Due to this, the villagers of these villages have taken refuge in the neighboring villages of Haryana for water. They go there by collecting water from tube wells and hand pumps installed in the fields of these villages. Therefore, for the past few days, the villagers of Delhi have been flocking to the villages of Haryana in the morning and evening.

The villages on the border of West Delhi, Dhansa, Ghalibpur, Daurala, Rawata, Sarangpur, Jhuljhali, Dariyapur Khurd, Malikpur, Mundela Kalan, Mundela Khurd, Bakargarh, Qazipur, Isapur etc. are not getting drinking water supply from the underground reservoirs built by Delhi Jal Board at Ujwa, Daulatpur etc. for the last several days. Apart from this, the water board tankers are also not reaching with water from the reservoirs. Whereas the villagers keep calling to send tankers.

Due to this, the villagers have turned towards Haryana. The villagers of Delhi bring water from Haryana’s Lohat, Devrakhana, Badhsa, Luxor etc. villages through bicycles, rickshaws, scooters, bikes, cars etc.

Situation like one and a half decade ago: Rajendra Kataria of Dhansa village says that the situation in the area has become like one and a half decade ago. At that time, there was a serious drinking water crisis in the area and the villagers of the area used to fetch water from tube wells installed in the neighboring villages of Haryana for irrigation in their fields. Similarly, for the past few days, the villagers are again going to those fields to fetch water.

Ground water level in villages is deep and highly contaminated

According to Shri Bhagwan Yadav, a resident of Qazipur village, the ground water level in the villages bordering Delhi is very low and it is highly contaminated. Due to this, the water of tube wells in the villages is not potable. Apart from this, hand pumps get damaged after a few days. Due to this, they depend on the water of Delhi Jal Board. But for the last few days, they are not getting drinking water even through the Jal Board. The officials of the Jal Board say that very little water is coming in the reservoirs of their area. Hence, the situation in the villages has become very serious.
