On the occasion of Ganga Dussehra in Varanasi, devotees took a dip in the holy Ganga at Dashashwamedh Ghat. A large crowd of people has gathered at the Mokshadayini Ghats. People have been arriving at the Ghats since early morning to take a bath. The process is still going on.

Big security arrangements

UP Director General of Police Prashant Kumar has instructed to make proper arrangements for the safety of bathers on the banks of river ghats and lakes in view of the bathing on Ganga Dussehra on Sunday. He has issued guidelines in this regard to all the police commissioners, IGs, DIGs and district captains on Saturday, in which all arrangements have been asked to be made to ensure the safe completion of Jyeshtha Ganga Dussehra bathing festival.

The DGP said that police officers should visit places where there is a possibility of a large crowd of bathers and make other arrangements including security in view of that. He has also given instructions to ensure adequate lighting on the river ghats, to get barricading done from the security point of view and to put divers and water police on duty. Checking should be done at the bathing ghats and lakes in advance and male and female police personnel should be deployed in plain clothes.

He has also instructed not to allow any non-traditional event in view of the festival register and the controversies that have taken place in the past years. The DGP has instructed the officers to keep a close watch on all social media platforms and take strict action against those who spread misleading information and issue immediate denial of the news. He said that UP-112 vehicles should be mandatorily deployed at crowded places.
