Joe Biden Speech: US President Joe Biden said on Thursday (July 25) that he had dropped out of the 2024 presidential election so that the country and the party could be united. He said that now the time has come to hand over the torch to the youth. Addressing the country for the first time after announcing his decision to withdraw from the election race, Biden also told what he is going to do for the country for the next six months.
Joe Biden described Vice President and Democratic Party’s presidential candidate Kamala Harris as strong and capable. He said, “The protection of democracy is at stake and this is more important than any position. I have decided that the best way to move forward is to hand over the torch to the new generation. This is the best way to unite our country. The time has come for new and young voices.” He also talked about ending division in politics.
Kamala Harris is strong and capable: Joe Biden
The US President said, “The people of America will choose the future of their country in a few months. I have chosen. I have made my views public. I want to thank my wonderful Vice President Kamala Harris. She is experienced. She is strong. She is capable. She is an incredible partner for me and a great leader for our country. Now the American people have to choose.”
Biden said, “When you choose a president, remember the words of Benjamin Franklin. When Benjamin was asked whether our country’s founders gave America a monarchy or a republic, he replied, ‘We’ve got a republic if you can handle it.’ A republic if you can keep it. Whether we keep the republic or not is now in your hands.”
Biden reveals his plan for six months as president?
The US President further said, “I have decided that the best way to move forward is to pass the torch of uniting our country to a new generation. There is a time and a place for long years of experience in public life, but there is also a time and a place for new voices.” Biden also told what he is going to do as President for the next six months.
He said, “In the next six months, I will focus on doing my job as President. I will continue to protect our individual liberties and civil rights, from the right to vote to the right to choose. I will continue to tackle hate and extremism and make it clear that there is no place for any violence in America.”
Biden further said, “I will continue to speak out to protect our children from gun violence. I will work to ensure that America remains strong and safe. It remains the leader of the free world. I am the first president in this century to report to the American people that the United States is not at war anywhere in the world. I will continue to work to end the war in Gaza, to bring all the hostages home.”
No title is more important than protecting democracy: Joe Biden
Joe Biden also explained why he decided to leave the post. He said, “I respect this office, but I love my country more. Serving as your president has been the honor of my life. But protecting the democracy that is at stake is more important than any position. I find strength and joy in working for the American people. This sacred work is not just about me. It is about you, your families, your future. It is about us.”
Nothing can come in the way of saving democracy: Biden
The US President said, “I believe America is at a turning point. This moment is one of those rare moments in history when the decisions we make determine the fate of our country and the world for decades to come. In this moment, we see those with whom we disagree not as enemies, but as fellow Americans. We are a great nation because we are a good people.”
He said, “The reality is that the sacred purpose of this country is greater than any one of us. The interests of American democracy must unite to protect itself. It has become clear to me that I need to unite my party in this vital effort. I believe that my record as president, my leadership in the world, and my vision for America’s future all deserve a second term. But nothing can come in the way of saving democracy.”
