US Announces $1.5 Billion in Ukraine Aid at Switzerland Peace Summit

The US pledged America’s unwavering support for Ukraine. US Vice President Kamala Harris has announced more than $1.5 billion in aid for the country’s energy sector and its humanitarian situation as a result of Russia’s 27-month invasion.

Kamala Harris made this announcement at the Ukraine Peace Conference, which is held in Lucerne, Switzerland. Here she also met Ukrainian President Zelensky. During a bilateral meeting with Zelensky, Kamala Harris said, “This war is a complete failure for Russian President Vladimir Putin.” At the same time, she promised American support for Ukraine and said that it is in our interest to maintain international norms.

Along with this, Kamala Harris also announced humanitarian aid of more than $379 million from the State Department and the US International Development Agency to help refugees and others affected by the war.

Financial help will help millions of people in Ukraine get food

The US Vice President’s office said the $1.5 billion includes $500 million in new funding for energy assistance and $324 million in previously announced funding for emergency energy infrastructure repairs and other needs in Ukraine. The money will cover food aid, health services, shelter and water, sanitation and services for millions of Ukrainians.

Biden also met Zelensky in the G-7

US President Biden also met Zelensky at the G-7 summit, where they signed the US-Ukraine bilateral security agreement.
