UP Bypoll 2024 Voting: Amidst the UP by-elections, Samajwadi Party had written a letter to the Election Commission appealing for the police force not to remove burqas and identify them. Regarding which the Election Commission has issued guidelines. The Commission has clearly said that policemen will not be able to do the work of voter identification on the day of voting. This work is done only by the presiding officer and his team.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer IAS Chandrashekhar has given instructions to the police officers of the state in this regard, in which he said that on the day of voting, the voters are identified only by the presiding officer and his team and the voters are not identified by the police force but by the police. The main objective of the force is to establish peace and order on the day of voting.
EC gave instructions after SP’s letter
The Election Commission has given clear instructions to the police officers of the state in this regard. The Commission has ordered to strictly follow these instructions so that no chaos is created at the booth. The Commission said that in this regard, detailed provisions have been given in the Handbook for Returning Officers, 2023 regarding identification of voters as well as identification of women/female voters.
Voters are not identified by the police force but the main objective of the police force is to maintain peace on the day of voting. Therefore, please make efforts to direct all concerned to ensure strict compliance with the above instructions, so that no chaos occurs at the polling place and voting can be conducted peacefully and smoothly.
