If you thought electric cars were the newest invention in the world of automobiles, think again. Think hard. And then check out this extremely old all-electric 1913 Waverly Model 93 EV. Yes, it is actually as old as the Titanic, but it hasn’t sunk yet. On the contrary, it is still drivable. And it is ready for an owner at an auction in August this year.
The Waverly Model 93 EV harks back to a time when cars were still a rare novelty, an option only for the wealthiest of the wealthy. One look at this car and its vintage design speaks volumes that here is an electric vehicle that has seen it all and yet has stood the test of time.
The Waverly Model 93 EV is going up for auction by Mecum Auctions in the US. And while the auction date or expected price has not been mentioned, the listing does mention that the EV was originally purchased by one Ann Peace Rawls of Virginia. And it remained in her family for almost 100 years before being purchased in 2002.
Although it was still in driving condition when it was purchased the second time, this Model 93 was eventually – and gradually – equipped with an onboard battery charger, allowing it to plug into a 120-volt outlet. According to the auction listing, many of the electrical and mechanical systems were also either replaced or restored. This Model 93 can still travel between 130 km and 160 km.
