UAE Sultan Al Jaber COP 28 Presidency Why Are Environmentalist Are Saying Its Conflict Of Interest

COP28 UAE Presidency: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and COP28 President Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber have come face to face over the use of fossil fuels. On one hand, Antonio Guterres says that the future should be imagined without the use of fossil fuels.

He said that we will not be able to stop global warming through any other measure other than this. If right decision is not taken then we will not be able to save the burning planet (Earth) from fossil fire. However, a day before this, on November 30, COP28 President Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber had presented a proposal for continued use of fossil fuels.

Displeasure among environmental activists also

Many activists keeping an eye on climate change are angry with the COP28 conference in Dubai. He believes that the UAE is one of the 10 largest producers of oil in the world and how can it advocate for climate change. Environmental activists have termed organizing the climate summit in the UAE as a conflict of interest.

Uproar over Sultan Al Jaber’s presidency

The United Arab Emirates is hosting COP28. UAE, on its part, has appointed Sultan Al Jaber as the President of COP28. But his presidency is embroiled in controversies. Actually, he is the head of UAE’s government oil company Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. It is being said that Sultan Al Jaber will come during the COP28 summit under the guise of reaching agreement on any issue that advocates the reduction of fossil fuels or ending dependence on them.

In the past too, there has been controversy over the involvement of people involved in the oil business in issues of climate change. It is believed that environmental activists and people associated with oil business come face to face on any proposal. But amidst the tug of war between the two sides, the issue of climate change remains inconclusive every time. However, many experts believe that in making climate change policy, oil traders will also have to be taken along, only then a clear policy can be made.
