Tomato Price Hike in Madhya Pradesh: The prices of vegetables have started skyrocketing in the pre-monsoon rains. The price of tomatoes which were being sold at 30 to 40 rupees per kg till a week ago has now reached 80 rupees per kg. Vegetable market traders say that the tomato crop has been affected first due to rain and then due to sunshine, due to which the prices are increasing. Vegetable traders say that there will be relief in tomato prices only after the new crop arrives in August.

According to the vegetable traders of Bhopal’s Karond Mandi, the tomato crop has been affected due to the unseasonal rain and the scorching sun, due to which the arrival in the market has decreased and the prices have increased. According to the wholesale vegetable traders, a week ago the price of a 25 kg crate of tomatoes had gone up to Rs 400 to 500, but now the same crate has gone up to Rs 1000 to 1200 per crate.
