What is the history of Hawa Mahal
The crown of Jaipur is the Hawa Mahal built here. It was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh for the queens. So that they could sit together on special occasions. Pink and red colors are used in the palace. A cool breeze comes from each window. The queens used to see the entire view outside from the windows built in the palace. It is also called the Palace of Wind. Even during summers, cool breeze comes in the palace, due to which people call it Hawa Mahal.

why is it called the crown of jaipur
Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh was a devotee of Lord Krishna. For this reason, he gave this palace the shape of the Lord’s crown. Since then, this building came to be known as the crown of Jaipur. Even when the Hawa Mahal is seen from the front, its shape looks like a crown. There are also 3 temples built inside the palace. Hawa Mahal’s tourist guide Ashok Karadia tells that since that time, the festivals of Teej and Gangaur were celebrated with great pomp in Rajasthan. The Teej procession used to pass through the main streets of the market, which the queens could not see.

Queens used to live here
Queens used to live in this palace. They used to rest. This is why the stones and layout of the palace are very special. They were not allowed to go outside. They were not able to know what was happening outside. But, after the Hawa Mahal was built, they could see all the celebrations from the window. It was designed and built by architect Lal Chandra Ustad in Mughal and Rajput style. The structure of this palace is such that everything is visible from inside, but nothing inside is visible from outside.

there isn’t a single staircase
Hawa Mahal is 5 storeys high, but this building has neither any stairs nor any lift. There are ramps to go from one floor to another. This palace has been built as a part of Jaipur’s City Palace. That is why it has no entry gate.
