Dr Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani of Telugu Desam Party from Guntur Lok Sabha seat is the richest minister of Modi Government 3.0. He took oath as Minister of State from TDP quota in the swearing-in ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. Chandra Shekhar, a doctor by profession, came into the limelight by declaring movable and immovable assets worth Rs 5,785 crore in his election affidavit. Dr Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani won the Guntur Lok Sabha constituency in Andhra Pradesh representing the TDP with 344,695 votes. Pemmasani replaced Galla Jayadev, who announced his retirement from politics in January 2024 just before the Lok Sabha elections. In this election, Chandra Shekhar defeated K Venkat Rosaiah of the YSR Congress Party by more than 3 lakh 40 thousand votes.

Completed MBBS from NTR University of Health Sciences Vijayawada in 1999

A doctor-turned-entrepreneur-turned-politician, Chandra Shekhar completed his MBBS from NTR University of Health Sciences Vijayawada in 1999 and MD (Internal Medicine) from Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania in 2005. He secured 27th rank in his state among 60,000 students who took the EAMCET medical entrance exam (MBBS), considered the most competitive exam in the country.

Chandra Shekhar, who has an interest in public service, has been working on behalf of the TDP’s NRI wing since 2010 to support several welfare programmes of the Telugu Desam Party. Though he wanted to contest the Lok Sabha election from Narasaraopet constituency in 2014, the TDP gave the ticket to R Sambasiva Rao due to political issues.

Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani was the candidate who declared the highest assets in the fourth phase. The TDP candidate from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh declared assets worth Rs 5705 crore. BJP’s Konda Vishweshwar Reddy was in second place in this matter. Reddy, who is contesting from Telangana’s Chevella seat, declared his wealth as Rs 4568 crore in his affidavit. The third richest candidate was TDP’s Prabhakar Reddy Vemireddy. Prabhakar, who was contesting from Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore seat, had assets worth Rs 716 crore. On the other hand, 24 candidates declared their assets as zero in this election. Whereas, three candidates declared their assets as Rs 7, Rs 83 and Rs 90 respectively.

Chandra Shekhar has been active in TDP’s NRI cell for a long time

Born in Burripalem village of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani studied MBBS from Osmania University. After completing his studies, he worked as a doctor at Johns Hopkins University-Sinai Hospital for about 5 years, during which he taught local people and medical students here. 48-year-old Pemmasani is the founder and CEO of UWorld, an online learning platform. Pemmasani has been active in the NRI cell of TDP for a long time and has also organized party programs while living in America.

Won the Ernst & Young Award in America

Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani won the Ernst & Young Award as a young entrepreneur in the US in 2020. He has also founded the Pemmasani Foundation. This foundation provides health camps and drinking water to the people in the villages of Guntur and Narasaraopet. Due to which he is popular among the public in the area.
