The Grand Palace did not start out as a Buddhist temple. In fact, between 1782 and 1925, the Grand Palace was used for various roles such as the royal residence, the Ministry of War, the Thai Mint, the Royal Court, as well as the administrative and government seat. Today, the Grand Palace is considered one of the most important Buddhist temples in Thailand as it houses the famous and widely revered Emerald Buddha statue. The Buddha statue dates back to the 14th century. (Representative image: Canva)
