Bengaluru. A party of a doctor and a nurse was going on in the hospital. Both of them were sitting together and drinking alcohol in the hospital when a patient reached the hospital. After what happened to the female patient, the matter reached the police. The female patient has accused the doctor and nurse of repeatedly injuring her by pricking her with the wrong needle.

It is being told that in Bengaluru, a woman has accused the doctor and nurse of a private hospital of working in an intoxicated state and injuring her by wrongly pricking the needle at 4-5 places on her hand while applying saline drip. In this matter, the police say that they have filed a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) and they will write to the Karnataka Medical Council (KMC) about this allegation and seek its opinion before initiating any action.

What is the woman’s allegation?
Sneha Bhat, a resident of Uttarahalli, told the police in her complaint that she had gone to Pragati Multi-Specialty Hospital at Konanakunte Cross on the night of November 3 with high fever. The woman told that the accused male nurse Mahendra (whose duty hours were over) and Dr. Pradeep (who was not a duty doctor) treated me. While applying saline drip, he pricked my hand at 4-5 places with a needle, due to which my hand got injured.

Who confessed to drinking alcohol?
The woman alleged that both of them were under the influence of alcohol and misbehaved with me. She told the police that she immediately reached KS Layout police station and complained verbally. According to the police, Mahendra (male nurse) who was brought to the police station the same night, confessed to drinking alcohol. The woman lodged a formal complaint on 4 November. Dr Pradeep, who visited the station that evening, denied the allegations.

What action did the police take?
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh Jagalsa said that they are investigating the case from all possible angles. He said that we have registered an NCR. Regarding the allegations of injuries caused by medical negligence, we have written a letter to KMC seeking its opinion. We have taken statements from the doctor and the male nurse. Meanwhile, another police officer said that based on his request, the District Health Officer (DHO) visited the hospital and recorded details of the incident. DHO report is awaited.
