New Delhi. A month after the Modi government approved a programme to benefit artisans in Agarbatti Manufacturing under the ‘Gramodyog Vikas Yojana’, its size and target number of beneficiaries have been increased. As per the new guidelines of the programme, its total size has been increased from Rs 2.66 crore to Rs 55 crore and it will likely benefit 6,500 artisans. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) under the MSME ministry will implement the programme and provide the artisans and self-help groups (SHGs) with backward and forward linkages with necessary support, according to the ministry.

If you are also thinking of doing business, then this can be a good opportunity for you. Because amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the domestic market of incense sticks and incense is growing at the rate of 15 percent annually. The domestic market of incense sticks and incense is Rs 15,000 crore. The current demand for incense sticks in the country is three thousand tonnes while the supply is half of it. The rest of the goods have been coming from countries like China and Vietnam. To increase the domestic supply of incense sticks, the central government is also providing subsidy to the incense stick and incense industry under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. Let us tell you how you can start the business of incense sticks and how much you will benefit from doing it.

The government took these steps to promote the agarbatti industry
To boost the sector, the government had earlier this year raised the import duty on bamboo sticks from 10 per cent to 25 per cent. KVC had said that the move would create at least 1 lakh jobs in the agarbatti industry in 8 to 10 months. The hike was made to promote domestic bamboo for Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs had announced the hike by tweeting.

machine price
In India, the price of an incense stick making machine ranges from Rs 35,000 to Rs 1.75 lakh. The production is less in a low-cost machine and you will not get much profit from it. I suggest you start work with an automatic incense stick making machine because it makes incense sticks very quickly. The price of an automatic machine ranges from Rs 90,000 to Rs 1.75 lakh. An automatic machine makes 100 kg of incense sticks in a day.

Agarbatti Making Machine
Many types of machines are used in making incense sticks. These include mixer machine, dryer machine and main production machine. Mixer machine is used to make paste of raw material and main production machine works to wrap the paste on bamboo. Agarbatti making machines are semi and fully automatic. After selecting the machine, deal with the supplier of the machines according to the installation budget and get the installation done. It is also necessary to take training to work on the machines.

supply of raw materials
After machine installation, contact good suppliers in the market for the supply of raw material. To get a list of good suppliers, you can take help from people who are already doing business in the agarbatti industry. Always order a little more raw material than required because some part of it also goes into waste. Ingredients for making agarbatti include gum powder, charcoal powder, bamboo, narcissus powder, aromatic oil, water, scent, flower petals, sandalwood stick, gelatin paper, saw dust, packing material etc.

Packaging and marketing
Your product sells on attractive design packaging. Consult a packaging expert for packaging and make your packaging attractive. Try to touch people’s religious sentiments through packaging. You can give ads in newspapers and TV to market incense sticks. Apart from this, if your budget allows, create an online website for the company.

You can start a business in this amount of money
You can start this business at home by making it by hand with an investment of Rs. 13,000, but if you are thinking of starting the Agarbatti business by installing a machine, then it can cost up to Rs. 5 lakhs to start it. Try to bring uniqueness in your product so that it gets a good price in the market. If you do something new in this business, then it will not take long for it to become a brand.
