China and Taiwan: Tension is increasing between China and Taiwan. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) has informed about Chinese military activity on Monday (November 11). They have detected seven People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft and five People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) ships.

The Taiwanese MND said the two planes had crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s southwestern and eastern air defense identification zones (ADIZ). In the last 5 months, China has entered Taiwan’s airspace several times.

Ministry of National Defense gave information

Giving information on social media, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) wrote, “As of 6 am today (UTC+8), 7 PLA aircraft and 5 PLAN ships were seen around Taiwan. 2 of these aircraft were near the center line. After crossing into the southwestern and eastern ADIZ of Taiwan, we monitored the situation and took action accordingly.” On Sunday, Taiwan’s MND had seen 9 Chinese aircraft and 5 ships in its vicinity.

China is continuously increasing military activities

China has increased its military activities around Taiwan since September 2020 by deploying aircraft and naval ships. China is using gray zone tactics to achieve its security objective. Earlier, China had also conducted large-scale military exercises around the island.

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te recently held a high-level national security conference, at which he assured the public of the government’s commitment to neutralizing any threats to Taiwan’s democracy and security.

Taiwan will start military exercises

According to the Taipei Times, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te has announced the start of military exercises named “Joint Sword-2024B” in Taiwan. Taiwan has been an independent state since 1949. However, China considers Taiwan as its territory. China’s goal is the “reunification” of Taiwan and it talks about achieving this through the use of force.
