Former West Indies captain Brian Lara had made this prediction about Afghanistan before the tournament.

Before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup, when West Indies legend Brian Lara was asked which four teams would make it to the semi-finals, his answer surprised some people. Apart from India and England, Lara had chosen Afghanistan along with his home team West Indies. The Windies team failed to do so but Afghanistan did not disappoint Lara.
