T20 World Cup: Former champion’s luck washed away in rain, Super-8 dream in limbo, Nepal benefits

New Delhi. The Sri Lankan team, which entered the T20 World Cup on Wednesday with high hopes, was ruined by rain. Its match was against Nepal and it was very important for remaining in the race for the Super-8. The Sri Lankan team, which had lost the match against South Africa in the first match, was in dire need of a win against Nepal. After the match was cancelled due to rain, its fate for the Super-8 is now entangled in an if-and-but equation.

Sri Lanka’s team is in the Group of Death (D) of the T20 World Cup. In this group, along with Sri Lanka, there are teams from South Africa, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal. Sri Lanka’s team had already lost to South Africa. Now, after sharing points with Nepal, it is at number five in the points table. South Africa, Bangladesh and Netherlands are in the first three positions after winning one match each.
