Health expert Dr. Jagdish Hiremath says that STSS is an infection caused by Group A Streptococcus (GAS) bacteria, which spreads rapidly in the body. It can cause high fever, headache, low blood pressure and organ failure. Dr. Jagdish Hiremath says that there are many reasons behind its spread. Along with the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, people are meeting in public, which is increasing the spread of infection. Dr. Hiremath says that this infection is especially affecting people above 50 years of age. Their bodies are more weak and sensitive.
What causes severe symptoms in STSS?
Dr. Hiremath says that Group A Streptococcus bacteria produce many toxic substances in the body, which trigger a hyper-inflammatory response in the body. This also causes severe swelling in the body. After this, the body’s tissues start getting damaged. After this, there is severe pain in the body. The bacteria rapidly enter the bloodstream and organs and many organs of the body start failing. If it is not treated quickly, STSS can kill a person within 48 hours.
What can be its remedies
Although STSS is currently in Japan, Dr. Hiremath warns that the infection could spread to other countries due to international travel. To prevent it, it is important to maintain hygiene such as regular hand washing and prompt treatment of any skin injury. Medical help should be sought immediately if there are early symptoms such as sudden severe pain, high fever and redness at the wound site.
