Chinese Ambassador Xu Wei, who arrived in Kolkata, has said that strong and stable bilateral relations are in the interest of China and India. Good relations are also essential for peace and development in the region and the world.

‘Both countries should work together to benefit’

Speaking at a reception hosted by the Chinese Consulate here, Xu said China is India’s largest trading partner and the two countries should work together to benefit from growth opportunities.

‘For world peace, good relations between China and India are necessary’

Xu further said that we are the two largest developing countries and major emerging economies, both at a critical stage of national development and revitalization. A strong and stable China-India relationship is in the interest of both countries and is also essential for peace and development in the region and the world. Xu expressed the willingness of the Chinese side to work with India. He said, “It is important for both countries to act in accordance with the consensus of our two leaders, enhance political trust, resolve differences in a proper manner, and advance mutually beneficial cooperation.”

‘Now more sugar traders will be seen in India’

Referring to bilateral trade and economic ties, Xu said that during his tenure as the new Chinese Consul General in Kolkata, he has focused on increasing people-to-people exchanges, especially in the cultural field. “We hope we will see more Chinese businessmen in India,” he said. On the resumption of direct flights from Kolkata to China, Xu said, “I hope it will resume again.”
