Lakheshwar Yadav/Janjgir Champa/Dhamtari: Nowadays people are becoming very fashionable. Meanwhile, some villages of Chhattisgarh are following their old traditions. One such conservative tradition is being seen in Dhamtari district, which is very difficult to believe in today’s times.
Sandabahara village is in Nagari area, 90 kilometers away from Dhamtari district headquarters. 40 to 50 families live in this village. Surprisingly, women in this village neither wear makeup nor sleep on cots. Not only this, women do not sit on anything made of wood such as tables and chairs. At the same time, married women of the village do not even add vermilion to their demand. Villagers believe that if women do this, they will definitely suffer from some serious disease.
This is the story behind the tradition
Dil Kunwar, a woman from Sandabahara village, told that there is a hill in the village itself, where Karipath Devi is seated. The village goddess gets angry due to makeup or sleeping on the cot and the village is in trouble. Also told that this tradition has been going on for centuries. If anyone in the village makes the mistake of breaking it, then some problem or the other occurs in the village. According to Dil Kunwar, whether there is any festival or wedding in the village, women do not wear makeup. At the same time, women in the village are prohibited from sitting on a table and chair made of wood. However, brick-cement platforms have been made for them to sit.
