The Congress Parliamentary Party met in the Central Hall of Parliament today. In this meeting, Sonia Gandhi was elected the leader of the party’s parliamentary party. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge proposed the name of Sonia Gandhi, which was unanimously accepted by the party leaders. Sonia Gandhi (77 years old) was elected to the Rajya Sabha in February this year.
‘Congress has once again shown its determination’
In the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting, Sonia Gandhi said, ‘Congress has once again shown its firmness. It was against a powerful and malicious machinery. Many people rejected us, but under the firm leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, we stood firm.’ She said, ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra were truly historic movements. It revived our party at all levels.’
Praised Rahul Gandhi
Sonia Gandhi also praised Rahul Gandhi during the meeting. She said, Rahul deserves special thanks for his perseverance and determination to fight unprecedented personal, political attacks. She said, ‘Congress’s numbers in Parliament have increased significantly. We have also been strengthened by the strength of India’s allies.’ Regarding the results of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Sonia said, ‘We should also consider improving our position in those states where our performance has been much below our expectations.’
