Six cases of Zika virus have been reported in Pune city. These include two pregnant women. After the infection cases were reported, the health department has come on alert mode. The health department of Pune Municipal Corporation has started monitoring. At the same time, as a precaution, it is taking measures like fogging and fumigation to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.
According to the health official, the first case of Zika virus infection was reported in Erandwane area when a 46-year-old doctor was tested positive. Later, the doctor’s 15-year-old daughter was also tested positive. Apart from these two, a 47-year-old man and a 22-year-old youth from Mundwa were also tested positive.
One of the infected women was a 12-week pregnant woman
After four cases were reported, a 28-year-old pregnant woman from Erandwane area was diagnosed with Zika virus infection. Her report came positive on Friday. On the other hand, a 12-week pregnant woman’s report came positive on Monday. However, the condition of both the women is normal.

According to information, Zika virus in pregnant women can cause microcephaly (a condition in which the head becomes very small due to abnormal development of the brain) in the fetus.
