The war of words continues between Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar over the establishment of AIIMS in Kerala. Tharoor said that no MP can promise to establish this prestigious medical institution at a place of his choice.

What did the Congress MP say

Tharoor on Sunday posted a post on Twitter in which he said that due to his efforts the central government accepted the Kerala government’s proposal to set up AIIMS in Kozhikode district. He wrote, “I had said during the election campaign that no MP can promise to set up AIIMS at any place of his choice. It depends on what the state government proposes and what the central government agrees to.”

‘BJP leaders mislead voters’

The Thiruvananthapuram MP further said, “With my best efforts and lobbying for AIIMS in my constituency, I honestly told the voters that the state government has chosen Kozhikode and this is the only option before the Centre. “Kerala Health Minister Veena George told the state assembly yesterday that the Central government has accepted Kerala’s proposal to set up AIIMS at Kinalur in Kozhikode. Shame on BJP leaders who misled voters by making the promise,” he said.

‘…then the situation would have been different’

In his reaction, Chandrasekhar said that the Congress MP who represented Thiruvananthapuram for 15 years did not fulfill any of his promises. He claimed that if Thiruvananthapuram was represented by a BJP MP, the situation would have been different. He said, Congress MPs who represented Thiruvananthapuram for fifteen years did not fulfill any of their promises of creating a High Court bench etc. Today they are talking about Kozhikode getting AIIMS. This would not have happened if the BJP or NDA had not fought.
