Nearly a dozen states of North-West India including Delhi, UP, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab are suffering from severe heat and heatwave and at present they do not seem to be getting any significant relief. On Sunday, the mercury in Delhi was recorded at 44.9 degrees Celsius which was six degrees above normal. At the same time, the maximum temperature in most parts of UP was above 45 degrees. The Meteorological Department estimates that after two days, these states may get some relief from light rain.

According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Department, the scorching heat will continue to haunt most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and UP till June 17-18. The situation will remain more or less the same in Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, northern Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh etc. for the next one or two days. There is no possibility of any significant decrease in night temperatures in most areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh.

Light rain expected due to new western disturbance

According to the Meteorological Department, a new western disturbance is forming affecting North-West India, which is likely to become active from Tuesday night. Due to its effect, light to moderate rainfall is expected in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh during June 19 to 21. At present, the monsoon is passing through Navsari, Jalgaon, Amravati, Chandrapur, Bijapur, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vijayanagaram and Islampur.

Heavy rains in Northeast in next five days

According to the weather department forecast, two separate cyclonic circulations are active in northeastern Assam and sub-Himalayan West Bengal, due to which heavy rains may occur in most parts of the Northeast in the next five days. Heavy rains are expected especially in Assam and Meghalaya, Arunachal. During this time, winds will blow at a speed of 30-40 km per hour along with thunder and lightning.
