Strong action was seen in the stock market on Tuesday. The market which opened on green mark in the morning finally closed on red mark. On the second trading day of the week, the Sensex fell by 802 points or 1.11% to 71,140. At the same time, Nifty slipped 215 points or 0.99% and closed at the level of 21,522. Maximum selling in the market was seen in shares of FMCG, Pharma and financial sectors. Whereas strong buying was seen in shares of public sector banks. Earlier on Monday, the Sensex had closed at the level of 71,941 with a gain of 1240 points.

This fall in the Indian benchmark index happened just a day before the US Federal Reserve’s announcement on interest rates on Wednesday. Apart from Bajaj’s twin shares, selling in Reliance and HDFC Bank shares led to the fall in the market. There was a rise in the shares of Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank during the last trading session, after which investors booked huge profits on Tuesday.
Market cap of BSE listed companies decreased by Rs 1.84 lakh crore
During Tuesday’s trading session, the market cap of BSE listed companies declined by Rs 1.84 lakh crore to Rs 375.36 lakh crore. Shares of the financial services sector, which has the heaviest weight among the 13 major sectors, declined by 0.63%. Along with this, weakness was also seen in the shares of Nifty FMCG, IT, Healthcare, Consumer Durables and Oil and Gas sectors. Bajaj Finance shares fell more than 5% to a five-month low and was the top Sensex loser. This fall in the company’s shares has come after its quarterly results were below expectations. There was also concern among some investors in view of the Fed’s policy decision coming on Wednesday.
