During his interaction with the Indian community, S. Jaishankar said, “Most of my counterparts, Prime Ministers and Presidents are interested in knowing what is happening in India. Other countries are watching us with interest today. What we have done is a lesson for the world.”

Refused to comment on Kandahar hijack

Jaishankar refused to comment on the ongoing controversy over the web series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’. He said, “I have not seen the film, so I would not like to comment on it. A flight was hijacked in 1984, I was a young officer at that time. I was part of the team that was dealing with them. Three-four hours after the hijack, I called my mother to say that I could not come home. Then I came to know that my father was also on the same flight. However, no one died. It was quite interesting because on the one hand I was part of this team that was working on the hijack and on the other hand I was among the family members who were constantly pressuring the government regarding the hijack.”

Let us tell you that the web series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ is based on the hijacking of Indian Airlines’ IC-814 plane by five terrorists on December 24, 1999. This plane took off from Kathmandu to Delhi, but just 40 minutes after takeoff, it was hijacked along with 154 passengers and crew members.
