Russia-Ukraine War: Moscow’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva said on Thursday (November 14) that Russia is ready for talks to end the Ukraine war if US President-elect Donald Trump takes the initiative. During this, he emphasized that these talks should be held keeping in mind the interests of Russia.
Donald Trump had heavily criticized Western countries regarding the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. During this, he had said that if he becomes President, he will end this war. Although he did not tell how he would do this work.
Russian ambassador said this
Gennady Gatilov, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, said, “Trump promised to solve the Ukraine crisis overnight. Well, let him try. But we are realistic people, of course we understand that Will never happen.”
He further said, “But if he initiates or suggests something to start the political process, it is welcome.” He said any such talks should be based on “ground realities” as Ukraine is on the back foot due to the two-year-long conflict. Russian forces are advancing into Ukraine at the fastest pace in at least a year. And now they control almost one-fifth of the country.
Ukraine’s President had placed this condition regarding peace talks
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly said that peace cannot be established until all Russian forces are expelled and all territories captured by Moscow, including Crimea, are returned. . Zelensky told European leaders in Budapest last week that concessions to Russia would be unacceptable for Ukraine and suicidal for all of Europe.
