Ramal moved northwards
Union Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju said on X, “Severe Cyclonic Storm Ramal over north Bay of Bengal has moved northwards with a speed of 7 kmph during the past six hours. It lay centred at 8.30 pm tonight over north Bay of Bengal near latitude 19.8°N and longitude 89.3°E, about 260 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh), 310 km south of Mongla (Bangladesh), 240 km south-southeast of Sagar Islands (West Bengal) and 280 km south-southeast of Canning (West Bengal).”

Passengers at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport are facing difficulties due to the suspension of flights. Arnab, a relative of an elderly passenger, said, “My grandmother came here today but she was informed that her flight has been suspended and she will have to come again tomorrow. Many flights are getting cancelled here.”

The weather is changing in Mandarmani and Digha areas of East Medinipur district of West Bengal. According to the IMD, Remal will pass between the coasts of Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal as a severe cyclonic storm around midnight of May 26.

IMD said that Remal has turned into a severe cyclonic storm. It will cross the coast of Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal as a severe cyclonic storm around midnight of 26 May.

Bengal government created a control room
The Bengal government held a high-level meeting on Saturday and reviewed the preparations to deal with the cyclone. Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba also reviewed the preparations from the state officials through video conferencing.

Alert issued for 8 districts of Tripura
The Tripura government has issued an alert in all eight districts after warning of heavy to very heavy rains, gusty winds and thunderstorms in the next 48 hours. Additional Secretary (Revenue) Tamal Majumdar said heavy rains and gusty winds are likely to continue in the state till May 28 due to the impact of the cyclonic storm. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in South Tripura, Gomati, Dhalai, Sipahijala and West Tripura districts on May 26.
