Let us tell you that a case was registered against Jarange and two others in 2013 under sections 420 (fraud) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code. An NBW has already been issued against Jarange for not appearing in court in the case. After a non-bailable warrant was issued against him, Jarange appeared in court on 31 May 2024, after which the NBW issued against him was cancelled by the court and the court imposed a fine of Rs 500 against him.

Today, the case was to be heard again, but Jarange has started a new indefinite hunger strike from July 20 demanding reservation in his village in Jalna district, due to which he could not appear in the court. On this, the court has again issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

Jarange’s lawyer Harshad Nimbalkar said, “The case was to be heard today before the judicial magistrate here, but Jarange is on a hunger strike right now, so he could not appear.” Nimbalkar said, “We will present Jarange in the court and get the NBW cancelled.”

Let us tell you that in 2012, Jarange and co-accused had approached the complainant, who stages plays on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, for six shows of ‘Shambhuraje’ in Jalna district and offered him Rs 30 lakh. While Rs 16 lakh was paid, there was some dispute over the remaining money, which led to the complaint. After this, the court ordered the police to register a case.

Advocate Nimbalkar said, ‘Jarange had obtained anticipatory (before arrest) bail in the case in 2013. The police filed a chargesheet, but no summons were issued to Jarange. The court took cognizance of the case in January 2024 and issued two summons to him.’
