Politicians have expressed grief after the death of senior leader and General Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sitaram Yechury. On Thursday, many politicians including Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to Sitaram Yechury.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of CPI M general secretary Sitaram Yechury. The Prime Minister wrote on Twitter that he was saddened by the demise of Sitaram Yechury. He was a leading light of the Left and was known for his ability to connect across the political spectrum. He also made his mark as an effective parliamentarian. My condolences are with his family and fans in this hour of grief.
President of India Draupadi Murmu wrote on Twitter that she was saddened to learn of the death of Sitaram Yechury. He had a distinctive and influential identity, first as a student leader and then as a parliamentarian in national politics. Though a committed thinker, he made friends across party lines. My heartfelt condolences to his family.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi condoled the death of Sitaram Yechury. He posted on Twitter that he had a deep understanding of the country and was a protector of the idea of India. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi also paid tribute to Sitaram Yechury. She wrote on Twitter that the demise of Sitaram Yechury is a deep loss for all of us. His years of service and dedication to our country are worthy of respect. He was a naturally gentle person who brought a sense of balance and gentleness to the harsh world of politics. May his soul rest in peace and may his loved ones find strength and courage to face this tragedy.
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi condoled the death of CPI(M) General Secretary and former Rajya Sabha MP Sitaram Yechury. She said, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Sitaram Yechury. We worked together in 2004-08 and the friendship that was established since then remained till his last days. He was unwavering in his commitment to the values of our country’s Constitution. Which is very strongly enshrined in its preamble.”

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah also paid tribute to CPI leader Sitaram Yechury. He wrote on Twitter that he was deeply saddened by the demise of CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury. He was a fine human being and a multilingual scholar. He enriched public life with his knowledge, wisdom and unwavering conviction. He played a key role in shaping the UPA-I government and led the drafting of the Common Minimum Programme. It changed India’s policy outlook on key issues.
Siddaramaiah wrote that his role in building the India Alliance and his influential interventions in the Rajya Sabha earned him respect across the political spectrum.
