What is Polaris Dawn mission?
The Polaris Dawn mission is a private commercial spacewalk mission. It was in the pipeline for many years and launched this September 10th. Four people are involved in the mission. Its funding and command is with Jared Isaacman. He is a billionaire businessman. The responsibility of the pilot is being fulfilled by Lieutenant Colonel Scott Poteat. Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon have been added as mission specialists. Both are operations engineers at SpaceX.
Who will do the spacewalk?
The spacewalk, called Extravehicular Activity (EVA), will be completed by Jared Isaacman and Sarah Gillis. The remaining two astronauts will handle the mission by staying in the spacecraft. The Polaris Dawn mission was launched on Tuesday morning from SpaceX’s Falcon-9 rocket.
When will the spacewalk start?
According to Indian time, this spacewalk is expected to start shortly from now at 2:20 pm. Elon Musk’s company SpaceX has planned to telecast it live. The ISS orbits the Earth at an altitude of about 400 kilometers, while the Polaris mission will go up to 700 kilometers.
