President Draupadi Murmu on Monday met her counterpart Maldives President Mohammad Muizzu and Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During the meeting with Nepali PM Prachanda, President Murmu said that Nepal is a priority partner country under India’s ‘Neighbor First’ policy. She expressed the country’s commitment to “further strengthen the unique relationship” between the two countries. A statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said that the two leaders discussed ways to further advance development initiatives in several sectors in Nepal. Which is benefiting the people of both countries.

Best wishes to the new government and the people of Maldives

While welcoming President Muizzu, President Draupadi Murmu congratulated the new government and the people of Maldives. She also expressed confidence that the island nation will continue to move forward on the path of prosperity and development under the leadership of Muizzu. An official statement said that the long-term and multifaceted relations between the two countries were noted. Apart from this, emphasis was laid on comprehensive bilateral cooperation.

‘India-Maldives relations will continue to grow stronger’

During this, President Murmu expressed hope that India-Maldives relations will continue to strengthen in the coming years. Let us tell you that Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Maldives President Mohammad Muizzu were among the seven leaders of India’s neighbors and the Indian Ocean region who attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Council of Ministers on Sunday. This was Mohammad Muizzu’s first visit to India after becoming the President of Maldives on November 17 last year.

Tension had increased between the two countries when Muizzu became the President

Relations between India and Maldives have become quite tense since Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu, known for his pro-China leanings, took office. Within hours of taking oath as the President of Maldives, he demanded the withdrawal of Indian military personnel from his country. Whereas earlier this month, Indian military personnel were replaced by civilians.
