Welcoming PM Modi, CM Nitish Kumar said that it is a matter of great happiness that you have come here for the first time. The ruins of the old university are still intact. Nalanda University was identified as the center of knowledge. Earlier 15 thousand students used to study here. People from many places of the country and the world used to come and study here. People from many countries including China, Japan, Sri Lanka used to come and study here. It was destroyed in the 12th century. In March 2005, the then President APJ Abdul Kalam had talked about re-establishing Nalanda University. Although later he refused, but when he came to the Legislative Assembly, he had said that Nalanda University should be re-established. The new Nalanda University had to be made of international level, so we talked to the central government but did not get help at that time. After this, we made a new law. Then the state government acquired 455 acres of land for the new university. It is important to tell all these things. So that people can also know the old things, how what was built.
