This is an indication that if Gill is not fit then Devdutt Padikkal may be asked to bat at number three. 24 year old Padikkal has been in Australia for the last 20 days. During this period, he has played innings of 88, 36 and 26 runs in the matches of India A and Australia A. Due to this, he can return to the playing eleven. Gill played the only Test for India this year against England, in which he scored 65 runs.
